Memorial services for Merle Marie Sharp Klaes, 70, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Shady Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Lanagin officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mrs. Klaes was born November 4, 1946 in Marshall, Texas to the late Marie Charity (Griffis) and Bernice Sharp, and died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her residence.
Mrs. Klaes had resided in Zavalla for 17 years and previously lived in Texas City for 50 years. She was employed at Lockheed Martin for six years and volunteered at ZAM Resale Shop. She enjoyed cooking and being with family and friends. Mrs. Klaes was very active in her church, Shady Chapel United Methodist Church, and she was the secretary and council chair.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Richard Klaes of Zavalla; sons, Joe Klaes of Houston, Alex Klaes and wife Stacey, Shawn Klaes and wife Jennifer, all of Texas City, and Rick Bensly and wife Diana of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Rena Robles and husband Ernest of Texas City; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Rick Sharp and wife Patty of Alvin and Benson Sharp and wife Cheryl of Friendswood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
