Margaret Ann Bowling Choate

February 19, 1934 — April 8, 2024

Funeral services for Margaret Ann Bowling Choate, 90, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Ann Bowling Choate, daughter of the late Seth and Mary Lightsey, was born on February 19, 1934 in Jacksonville, Texas and died Monday, April 8, 2024 in Lufkin. After selling their grocery store in 1947, the family moved to a dairy farm in Turney, Texas. After graduating from Jacksonville High School, she worked at Nan Travis Memorial Hospital as a pathology assistant.

In 1954, Ann married her handsome sailor, William Boyd Bowling. The two raised their four beautiful children with good, southern values and God’s Word in their home in Lufkin. Her favorite pastimes were painting and camping with her family, while her greatest love was learning about Jesus.  Mrs. Choate was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for nearly fifty years where she cherished her time of fellowship with her church family. She also made many friendships during her time as a cashier at K-Bob’s. Her sweetheart, Boyd, passed away in 1991 after nearly 40 wonderful years of marriage.

In 2002, Mrs. Choate married her second husband, Billy P. Choate, and spent their five years together traveling and visiting grandchildren. In 2020, she moved to Pinnacle Senior Living Center. She loved the residents and staff, and they loved her. Mrs. Choate spent countless hours looking out her window admiring the beauty of God’s creation and watching “her” ducks in the pond, her birds and flowers.

Mrs. Choate is preceded in death by first husband, William Boyd Bowling; her second husband, Billy P. Choate, her daughter-in-law, Debbie Bowling; and her granddaughter, Adrianne Bowling.

She is survived by her son, Bill Bowling of Lufkin; daughter, Cathy Halovanic of Dallas; son, Brian Bowling of Lufkin, son, John Bowling and his soul mate, Arnold Alvarez, of Dallas; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Houston and SE Texas Chapter, 6055 S. Loop E., Houston, Texas 77087.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
