Gary was born March 17, 1959 in Lufkin, Texas to the late June (Jordan) and Gary Lynn Greening, Sr., and died Sunday, May 12, 2024 in a local hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Gary lived life big and loved hard. From the time his boys were very little, he made sure their lives were filled with sports, friends, good times, and loving on others. He was a father figure to many and loved each of them as his own. He instilled his love of baseball into as many young lives as he could and put his passion to good use, coaching various little league teams in Lufkin. He loved his community and served in many ways, including his role as President of the Jaycees for many years, and the care he gave to people of the community over the holidays. One of his favorite things to do in his later years, was to ride around town and stop in at local restaurants to see who he might know that he could strike up a conversation with, and he was always able to find someone. When he wasn’t on the field or conversating around town, he would spend his free time on Lake Conroe or at the beach, his other two happy places. The legacy he leaves behind includes, but is not limited to, living life to the fullest, never meeting a stranger, taking care of others, and last but not least, getting you some on the ballfield.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Greening of Lufkin; son, Tyler Greening of Galveston; son and daughter-in-law, Chase and Lindsey Greening of Montgomery; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Morgan and Bret Due of Lufkin; grandchildren, Landon Greer, Karson Due, Grayson Due, Kashton Due, all of Lufkin, and Cal Greening of Montgomery; brother and brother-in-law, Pate Greening and John Spivey of Kilgore; brother, Marvin Greening of Lufkin; and special friends, Jimmy and Tammy Citty.
