Elizabeth "Liz" Temple Swor

A Celebration of Life for Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Temple Swor of Lufkin will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Old Union Cemetery with Brother Bob Owen officiating.

Elizabeth Ann Temple Swor passed away Monday, May 20, 2024. Liz passed away peacefully at her home. She was born October 7, 1946 in Lufkin, Texas.

Liz attended Hudson High School where she received Miss HHS her Senior year and graduated in 1965. She lived most of her life in Lufkin. Liz started working at Memorial Hospital in 1965 for two years.

She left Lufkin in 1967 and traveled to many cities across Texas and other states. Liz returned home in 1971. She started cosmetology school in 1975. Liz worked for The Lufkin Daily News and produced The Shopper, a very successful newspaper, for many years. She also ran and managed another newspaper called The Peddler. In 1981 she opened a produce stand in Lufkin where she bought and sold produce to the public. Liz started the first beauty shop in Memorial Hospital in 1988. The shop was a big success.

Liz also had a beauty shop in her home and at The Neches House, where she later retired. She had many talents and hobbies which included drawing, painting, writing poems and songs. She enjoyed cooking for other people and anyone that knew her knew she cooked the best egg custard pies, chocolate pie, and chocolate chip cookies around. She adored her family and loved playing with her grandchildren and her great-grandbabies.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law John Griffith of Alto; grandson, Kade and wife Casey Griffith; granddaughter, Presley Griffith; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Griffith and Sutton Griffith, all of Alto; sister, Elaine Turner of Diboll; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burnis and Beatrice Temple; brothers, Gaston, Powell, and Leebo Temple; and sister, Mary Henderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jared Temple Scholarship Fund, c/o Hudson ISD, 6735 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
