David Edward Fleming

November 26, 1955 — February 15, 2025

A Celebration of Life for David Edward Fleming, 69, of Lufkin will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Angelina Church of Christ. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Carroway Funeral Home. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

David Edward Fleming, lovingly known as Husband, Dad, Daddy, Papoo, and Bruzzie, was born in Oklahoma City to Orville Edward and Barbara Rose Fleming on November 26, 1955. His proud sister Lynna loved him as her best friend and took care of him like her own. He grew up in Midwest, Ok and Houston, TX, and then moved to Lufkin at the start of the 9th grade. David loved music and was in the band, played saxophone and bari sax, and served as band president his senior year. He was a friend to everyone and loved by many. He had an interest in a fellow bandmate, and while it took her awhile to come around and see past his big hair, she finally realized he was exactly what she and Lesa needed. David and Pat were married on June 2, 1979. They were joined in marriage with their daughter Lesa by their side, and then added two more daughters, Kara in 1980, and Keli in 1982.

David worked for Duo-Fast his entire career, from the time he was 18, until the time he left at the age of 53, due to his health. He was dedicated to his work, he was dedicated to his family, and he was dedicated to his Lord. David loved to sing and often led singing at church. There was always a melody in his heart and he had such a beautiful tenor voice. He was also involved in community choirs, church singing groups, and started Safe Harbor with Pat at their church in Round Rock. He even performed in a few community musicals and really enjoyed getting to experience all of that with his loving wife, Pat.

David served as a deacon and an elder in various churches over the years, and he loved being a part of every church body he attended. He and Pat enjoyed serving with the children and they often taught children’s classes together. David taught song leading to the younger boys, and together, they directed groups of kids and took them to Leadership Training for Christ numerous times.

David was a loyal and devoted husband to Pat for 45 years and he loved her deeply. He also loved his daughters and sons-in-law and was always there when he was needed.

As David got older, his grandkids became the center of his world. Papoo was adored by each one of his grandchildren.

David’s body was overwhelmed by the many procedures, 10 major back surgeries, and diabetes that made every day painful and tiring, but he would never complain. He just kept moving forward and doing whatever he could to help others. He had a servant’s heart and found joy in loving others well.

He passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, February 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. While we will miss him greatly, we are thankful that he is no longer in pain and is now looking into the face of Jesus.

David is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia Capps Fleming; his daughters and sons-in-law who were so precious to him, Lesa (May) and Mark Brassette, Kara (Fleming) and Chad Dennis, and Keli Fleming; his beloved grandchildren: Daniel and Kallie Houston, Trinity and Nicholas Northcutt, Andrew and Raven Fleming, Hannah Dennis, Jackson Dennis, William Brassette, Nathan Fleming, Makayla Fleming, Simon Dennis, and Kai Dennis; treasured sister and brother-in-law, Lynna and Randy Bond; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Barbara Capps and Ileene and Dan Dillard; step-mother, JaNell Fleming, and step-sister, Tonya Sanders; many special nieces and nephews, and a huge number of friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Edward Fleming and Barbara Conaway.

Honorary Pallbearers: Daniel Houston, Andrew Fleming, Nicholas Northcutt, Jackson Dennis, William Brassette, Nathan Fleming, Simon Dennis, and Kai Dennis.
