Clarence Jr. Davis

August 27, 1942 — April 27, 2025

Clarence Jr. Davis, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, left his earthly home April 27, 2025, at MRC Pinecrest, at the age of 82. He was born to Clarence Davis and Velma (Fondren) Davis August 27, 1942, in Nogalus Prairie, Trinity County, Texas.

Clarence Jr. was a graduate of Apple Springs High School and went on to earn a master's degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas. A dedicated educator, he taught 8th grade math and social studies at Devers ISD for 32 years, inevitably having a positive impact on many students along the way. After his retirement, Clarence Jr. devoted 10 years to caring for his aging parents, demonstrating the same commitment to family as he had to his students.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: gardening, tending cattle on the family land in Nogalus and capturing the beauty of Texas through his photography. He especially loved photographing bluebonnets and fall foliage during his many jaunts across the state with his best friend John Charles Graham. An avid golfer and outdoorsman, Clarence Jr. also had a passion for billiards. In his later years, he was a familiar and friendly face in the Pinecrest billiards room - so much so that it’s said he nearly wore a path in the carpet on his way there.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Velma Davis; his brother, Clell Hayden Davis; his sister-in-law, Mellowayne Davis; and his brother-in-law, Bob Riley Ham. He is survived by his sister, Charlene Davis Ham; niece, Cheryl Ham Dutill and her husband Frank; nephews, Robert Davis Ham and his wife Jenny, Kenneth Lanier Ham, Clell Dwayne Davis and his wife Kelly, and Carey Hayden Davis.

A funeral service will be held at Prairie View Methodist Church in Nogalus Prairie at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025. Visitation with the family will precede the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. A short graveside service will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904, the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131, or the charity of your choice.

Clarence Jr. will always be remembered as a quiet, gentle soul with an engaging smile and sharp wit. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated caregivers at PineCrest and Hospice in the Pines for their compassion and care. His legacy lives on in the many lives he impacted and the stories that will continue to be told in his honor.
