Charles R. Popham, Jr.

Funeral services for Charles R. Popham, Jr., 88, of Huntington, will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Believers Bible Church in Lufkin with Dr. Robert W. Klund officiating.  Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery near Zavalla.

Mr. Popham was born June 20, 1934 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Katy Elizabeth (Hatcher) and Charles Russell Popham, Sr.  He died Friday, January 13, 2023 in a Lufkin hospital.

Mr. Popham was a retired construction superintendent for Brown & Root, Inc., following more than 40 years of service.  He was a good provider, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He loved this country and was proud to be an American.  He loved to fish and bowl, and he had resided in the Huntington area since 1970.

Mr. Popham and his wife, Jean, have been members (charter members) of Believers Bible Church for more than 50 years.  He loved the Lord and his church family. He was baptized at Believers Bible Church and was a longtime member of the Men’s Breakfast sponsored by the church.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Jean Popham of Huntington; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. "Rusty" Popham, III., and Linda of Marshall, David W. Popham and Madeline Lee of Friendswood; grandchildren, Daniel Popham, Kimberly Kezerle, Kerry Popham, Kristy Popham, Kelly Allen, Ryan Popham, Katherine Johnson, David Popham, Jr., and Jessica Godbe; fifteen great grandchildren; pastor and true friend, Bro. Bob Klund; and longtime beloved friend and co-worker, Junior Adams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Catherine Sciba; and brother, Wilbur Lewis.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Popham, David Wayne Popham, Jr., Tim Johnson, Ryan Popham, Evan Allen and Justin Griffith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Believers Bible Church, 408 S. Medford Dr., Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at Believers Bible Church prior to the service.
