Carol Ann Peterson Starr

Funeral services for Carol Ann Peterson Starr, 82, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church Lufkin with Reverend Kenneth Bunge officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Carol Ann Peterson Starr was born March 9, 1941 to Gustav Raymond Peterson and Lois (Box) Peterson in Austin, Texas. She attended public schools in Austin and in Pflugerville, Texas and graduated from McCallum High School in Austin in 1959. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Library Science in 1963.

Ann served as librarian at Concordia Lutheran College (now Concordia University Texas) from 1963 until she married Frank Daniel Starr and the couple moved to Morgan City, Louisiana, where she served as librarian at Patterson Public School in Patterson, Louisiana, and her husband served as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Morgan City. In 1969 Ann and her husband moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she became the mother of her daughter Elizabeth Ann in 1970 and then to Augusta, Missouri where her husband served as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church and as an editor of publications of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. There she became the mother of Justin Daniel in 1972.

In 1979 the family moved to Lufkin, Texas where her husband served as pastor of First Lutheran Church. Ann began serving as librarian at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School in 1980 and continued her service there until her retirement in 2005. Ann was respected by her colleagues and loved by her students throughout her 25 years at St. Cyprian’s School.

Ann was a faithful Christian from her baptism at University Lutheran Church in Austin until her entrance into her Savior’s heavenly Kingdom of Glory Monday, August 21, 2023. She loved teaching children at St. Cyprian’s and also in her church in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Richard Raymond Peterson. She is survived by her husband, Frank Daniel Starr of Lufkin; by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Starr and her husband Mark Nimkoff of Southampton, Massachusetts; her son, Justin Daniel Starr and his partner Jacquiline Senosain of Bear, Delaware; by her brothers-in-law, Ben Starr, Marvin Starr, Jerry Starr and his wife Jackie, and Jimmy Starr and his wife Carol; and by nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Keith Bahn, Tony Teichelman, Tom Theiss, Bob Smith, Russell Huls, and Bill Berry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry King, Palmer Teichelman, Russell Skoug, G.L. Schroeder, Jimmie Curry, and Roland Gerth.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Carroway Funeral Home.
