Allen Earl "Al" Vinson

Funeral services for Allen Earl “Al” Vinson, 92, of Longview will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Elwin M. Gipson Chapel with Reverend Stephen Lantis officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Vinson was born September 13, 1923 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Allen Reagan and Selma (Slomosky) Vinson and died Saturday, December 12, 2015 at a nursing facility in Longview, Texas.

Mr. Vinson graduated Lufkin High School Class of 1941. He was an Eagle Scout and later became a Boy Scout Master. He was the recipient of the “Silver Beaver” Award. Mr. Vinson served his country as a Merchant Marine. He attended Texas Christian University and Port Arthur College. He retired as a Radio Owner/Broadcaster after many years of working with various radio stations in Lufkin, Tyler, Longview, Palestine, Conroe, Midland, Waco, Atlanta, and Corsicana, Texas. He then went on to be a sales manager for a cable TV station in Brownsville, Texas. After retirement from broadcasting, he worked for ten years with Lufkin’s MH/MR Burke Center in Lufkin. Mr. Vinson loved computers, photography, videography, and writing short stories. He also enjoyed hunting arrowheads and rock polishing. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and William Rhyne of Longview; daughter, Bobbie Hare of Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Master Chief David Allen Vinson and Joy Andrews of Australia; grandsons, Marcus and Morgan Hare and Jason and Jamie Andrews; granddaughters, Krista Herman and Stephani De La Garza; special friends, Pat Berry, Sean and June Dupre and “Al’s Pal’s”, Alex and Claire Dupre all of Lufkin; numerous cousins, other family, and special Lufkin friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Clark “Bobby” Vinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be his former Boy Scouts and his cousins.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m Tuesday afternoon prior to the service.
