Funeral services for Lessie Rawls, 86, of Lufkin will be held Monday, December 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Hinsley officiating. Interment will follow in the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Rawls was born May 19, 1929 in Gouldbusk, Texas to the late Ota Dee and Myrtle (VanPelt) Cox, and died Friday, December 4, 2015 at her residence. Mrs. Rawls had resided in Lufkin since 1970. She was a secretary at Brookhollow Elementary School for 21 years. Mrs. Rawls was known as GranGran by her grandchildren. She was a member of the Faith Community Ministries Church. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John Rawls of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sheryl Rawls of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and David Landrum of Lufkin; granddaughters and husbands, Rhonda and Shane Wright of Lufkin and Lauren and Travis Maxey of Euless; grandsons and wife, Michael and Mallori Rawls, Ethan Landrum and Matthew Landrum, all of Lufkin; great-grandsons, Jackson Rawls and Jase Rawls, both of Lufkin; sisters, Hazel Cox Free of Lufkin and Lanelle Cox Early of Bay Springs, Mississippi; brother, Wilburn Cox of Stephenville; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pallbearers will be Ethan Landrum, Matthew Landrum, Michael Rawls, Ben Watson, Travis Maxey and Josh Watson. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon prior to the services.
