Funeral services for James Carroll Kendrick, 93, of Lufkin will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roger Bailey officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park. Mr. Kendrick was born November 5, 1922 in Trinity County, Texas to the late James and Tina (Martin) Kendrick. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in his home, while in the presence of his loved ones. He served in the United States Army while defending his country during World War II from February 9, 1943 through October 31, 1945. Private First Class Kendrick, Cannoneer 844 of the Cannon Company of the 351st Infantry, fought for his country while stationed in North Africa and Arno-Rome, Italy for the majority of his tour. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, General Officer 13, Headquarters 351 Infantry and Good Conduct Ribbon of General Officer 14 Headquarters 351 Infantry. Mr. Kendrick met his wife, Callie, upon his return from the service and they married shortly thereafter. Both he and his wife made a home together while living for the Lord as active members of the Lord’s congregation. Mr. Kendrick served as a deacon of several Assembly of God churches for forty-three years. He was a current member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. It was evident in his life and his spirit to all who knew him, that he was a child of God and loved the Lord immensely. Mr. Kendrick worked many years and retired from Berry Cigar and Candy Company of Tyler, Texas while also raising his family with his wife. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed the outdoors, and spent countless hours working on his rosebushes. Mr. Kendrick instilled in his children the values of hard work through farm life. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought much happiness to him throughout his life. He cherished the precious time spent with all of his family, loved ones, and friends. Mr. Kendrick is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Callie Sue Kendrick; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Lesa Kendrick and Donald “Greg” and Robbie Kendrick; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Brad Barington; son and daughter-in-law, John and Sabrina Kendrick; and son-in-law, Billy Stout. His surviving siblings are brother, Horace W. Kendrick; brother and sister-in-law; Charles “Buck” and Leona Kendrick; sisters and brothers-in-law, Johnnie and Billy Pitts and Frances and Kenneth Ripley; and sister, Carolyn White. He was blessed with the following grandchildren: Tawyna and Bryan Baker, Angie and Richard Hope, Jessica Kendrick, Ashley and Josh White, Hannah and Keith Moore, Rachel Kendrick, Jennifer and Brandon White, Justin Barington, Jacob Kendrick, Veronica and Justin McCathern, Megan and Ryan Walton, Richard Stout, and Randy Stout. His blessing surpassed with survival of the following great-grandchildren: Breanna Hope and Jordan Cupit, Kaylenn Baker, Mason Hope, Kylee Baker, Stellan Kendrick, Gracie Moore, Kami Walton, Amberly Stout, Lacy Stout, and Blake Stout. Mr. Kendrick was preceded in death by his father, James Kendrick; brother, John B. Kendrick, Jr.; parents, John B. and Tina Kendrick; sister, Estelle Thompson; brother, Donald Kendrick; son, James C. Kendrick, Jr.; and daughter, Linda Stout. Pallbearers will be Mr. Kendrick’s grandsons; Justin Barington, Jacob Kendrick, Bryan Baker, Richard Hope, Keith Moore, Josh White, Justin McCathern, Brandon White, Mason Hope, and Jordan Cupit. Honorary pallbearers are Henry Bailey, David Glawson, and Hubert Bridges. A special thank you to Hospice in the Pines for all of the care and compassion provided during this difficult time.
