Funeral services for Wayne Edgar Brown, 91, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church with Reverend Stephen Lantis officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park under the auspices of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M.
Mr. Brown was born September 8, 1923 in Cimmaron County, Oklahoma to the late Mary Frances (Derrick) and Edgar H. Brown and died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in Lufkin.
Mr. Brown resided in Lufkin for sixty-eight years. He was a Combat Engineer for the United States Army in World War II in the South Pacific. He was employed by Southern Pacific for thirty-six years as a Car Inspector. Mr. Brown was a Mason for over fifty years and taught masonry to many. He was a member of the Lufkin Lodge #669, Lufkin Chapter #240, Commandery and Council #176. He was a past Worshipful Master at the Apple Springs Lodge #1115 and a member of the Sharon Temple Shrine. He loved fishing and hunting, and took pride in loading his own shells, as well as working in his garden and barn. He read his Bible faithfully every night. He was a loving daddy and “Pap”, had a huge heart, and was a kind and giving man. Mr. Brown was a simple man, he chose to wear overalls and black boots (which he shined every morning) as his daily attire. He and his beloved wife, Clarkie, provided a home full of love that was always filled with family and children.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Clarkie Mae (Milligan) Brown; daughter, Barbara Ann McGaughey and husband, David of Lafayette, Louisiana; daughter, Mary Frances (Brown) Holland of Lufkin; ten grandchildren, Dana McGaughey, Angie McGaughey, Wayne Brown, Christy Brown, Missy Brown, Derrick Wayne Holland, Ashley Holland, and Dylan Holland; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Olin Horne, Donny Brown, and Winston Brown; sisters, Joyce and Aunt Gracie
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Lee Brown; granddaughter, Christy Rochelle Brown; brothers, Harry and Weldon; sisters, Merle and Nona.
Pallbearers will be Derrick Holland, Dylan Holland, Wayne Brown, Olin Horne, Donny Brown, David McGaughey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ski Schimaleski, Turner, Bob Brown, John Porter, and Jim Riggs.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
