L.G. Murphy

Memorial services for L.G. Murphy, 82, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother John Raines officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home, and the cremains will be interred in the Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Murphy was born January 18, 1933 in Patroon, Texas to the late James and Florence E. (Jones) Murphy, and died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in Nacogdoches. Mr. Murphy was raised in Center, and was a longtime resident of Hudson before moving to Zavalla in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from White’s Warehouse, where he was a truck driver. Mr. Murphy served on the Hudson City Council for 14 years. He loved catfishing and working in his rose garden. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Ora Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Murphy of Zavalla; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Debbie Murphy of Hudson, Michael and Tami Murphy of Smithville, Larry and Julia Murphy of Pollok and Joe and Amy Murphy of Hudson; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Tonya and Dennis Mince of Center, Melissa Aguilar of Mineola, Angela and John Raines of Alvin, and Jean and Morris Hill of Nacogdoches; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Fonville of Nacogdoches; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 300630, Suite 5214, Houston, Texas 77230-0630, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148-0142. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
