Funeral services for Mary Frances (Stanaland) Thompson, 88, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pat Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson was born January 7, 1926 in Lufkin, Texas to Robert L. and Berta L. (Stubblefield) Stanaland, and died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at her residence. Mrs. Thompson was a lifetime resident of Lufkin. Mary had a long career with Angelina County beginning in the County Extension Office, County School Superintendant Office, and ending with her retirement from the Angelina County Tax Office. She was a charter member of the Lufkin Band Boosters and a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the Daughters of 1812. She was active with the Lufkin Sideliners with her husband Rinkey. Mrs. Thompson was called the “Scrapbooking G-Maw”. From 2002-2013 she made Lufkin Panther scrapbooks and gave them to a Lufkin player. She was a member of the Union Road Church of Christ. Survivors include her son, Eulon Zane Thompson of Lufkin; daughters, Gail Thompson Cummings and husband Lynn of Lufkin, Terry Thompson Easterly and husband Jimmy of Bryan and Mary Ann Thompson of Lufkin; grandsons, Michael Cummings of Lufkin, Clay Cummings and wife Alana of Universal City, Timothy Cummings and wife Mallisa of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Steve Cummings and wife Misty of Austin, Jason Easterly and wife Melissa of Houston, and Wes Defoyd and wife Erin of Medway, Massachusetts; granddaughters, Darby Humplik and husband Matthew of Benbrook, Cheryl Mansfield and husband Richard of Sterling, Massachusetts, and Erin Mascroft of Ware, Massachusetts; 25 great-grandchildren; nephews, Scott Stanaland and wife Audrey of Loudon, Tennessee, Brock Stanaland and wife Linda of Florida, Lang Thompson and wife Karen of Cut and Shoot, Larry Thompson of Willis, and Mark Thompson and wife Patricia of Diboll; and niece, Nila Ciesiel and husband Ron of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eulon “Rinkey” Thompson; brother, Irving Stanaland; and sister, Betty Salters. Pallbearers will be Dick Stubblefield, Wayne Davis, Glenn Cummings, Bobby Ruby, David Gordon, Roy Truss and Frank Shipley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Brock and Charlie V. McLain. The family extends special thanks to her long time friends, Alta Slack, Robbie Kinner, Louise Lindsey, Barbara Daniels, Dr. Glenn and the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for their care of Mrs. Thompson.
