Hubert Edward "Ed" Dorsett

May 17, 1947 — June 6, 2014

Memorial services for Hubert Edward “Ed” Dorsett, 67, of Tyler will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Hubert Edward “Ed” Dorsett died Friday, June 6, 2014 at his residence in Tyler. He was born May 17, 1947. He grew up in Lufkin and attended Lufkin schools, graduating from Lufkin High School in 1965.

Ed was an Aggie to the core. He received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1969 and went on to pursue a career in petroleum engineering. Ed spent the early years of his career as a petrochemical process engineer at Atlantic Richfield Company in Houston. For the past 37 years, Ed resided in Tyler where he worked as a Senior Process Engineer for Howe-Baker and Petrofac before his retirement from Petrofac in 2002. His job with Howe-Baker took him all over the world, most notably to China, Saudi Arabia, and Alaska. Ed was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was also a member of the Texas A&M Association of Former Students.

While Ed valued his professional and educational affiliations, he most treasured his family, especially his only son, Phillip. Ed often commented that although he was honored to be a son and a brother, he felt most privileged to be a daddy. Ed loved Phillip so much and was so proud of him, following all of his accomplishments, big or small. Ed also took an active role in his family of origin, and upon the death of his parents, he guided the family through the difficult ordeal of dispensing the family’s assets, despite his own failing health. One could not ask for a better big brother; he was always the protector and guide, especially to his younger sister.

Ed was a quiet, reserved, no-nonsense man who loved books, photography, firearms, computers, and music. He played cornet in the junior high and high school bands and piano in his younger years. He was passionate about sharing his love of art and science with others.

Ed is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Lauren Dorsett of College Station; grandson, Thomas Edward Dorsett of College Station; brother, Jim David Dorsett of Lufkin; sister, Linda Ann Dorsett of Nacogdoches; nephew, John Dorsett of Lufkin; niece, Susan Dorsett Carney of Huntington; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert C. and Eunice (Sisk) Dorsett; and grandparents, Chapman and Hester Dorsett and Oscar and Emma Sisk.
