Mildred Celeste Hanna Smith

Funeral services for Mildred Celeste Hanna Smith, 100, of Southlake, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elwyn M. Gipson Memorial Chapel in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park with Hershel Bearden and Dr. Jerry Burgess officiating. Interment will follow the services.

Mrs. Smith was born September 24, 1913 in Martinsville, Nacogdoches County, Texas, and died Monday, March 3, 2014 in Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas. She was the daughter of Frank and Laura Fuller Hanna. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, William Hayes Smith, in 1979, and by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

A longtime resident of Lufkin, Mrs. Smith had resided in Southlake for six years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ and taught Bible school classes for a number of years. She was a former public school teacher and taught in both Angelina County and Nacogdoches County.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Burgess of Southlake, Texas; grandchildren, Becca Burgess Pickens and husband Todd of Wylie, Texas and Brian Burgess and wife Danyelle of Grapevine, Texas; great-grandchildren, Braxton Burgess, Blake Burgess, and Bryson Burgess of Grapevine, Texas and Savannah Pickens and Marshall Pickens of Wylie, Texas.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Dancing River Assisted Living in Grapevine, Texas and to Barbara, Debbie, Sherry, and the entire staff of Envoy Hospice in Fort Worth, Texas for their kind, gentle, and loving care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the India Mission, Angelina Church of Christ, P.O. Box 153238, Lufkin, Texas 75915 or to Christ’s Haven for Children, 4200 Keller Haslet Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76244 would be appreciated.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Friday morning prior to the services.
