Funeral services for William (Bill) DuPree, Jr., 76, of Lufkin, will be held Sunday, May 9, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Brother Adrian Neal officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Fielder Cemetery under the auspices of Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M.
Mr. DuPree was born January 3, 1934, in Lufkin, Texas, to the late Lottie Rosetta (Smith) and William Henry DuPree. He died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. DuPree died from complications from Primary Lateral Sclerosis after bravely enduring the effects of the disease for many years.
Mr. DuPree was a retired pipeline welder and inspector for Local Union 798, following 45 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Mr. DuPree was a member of Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M., and the Scottish Rite. He was a lifelong resident of Lufkin. He was a wonderful husband, Daddy and ""Pa Bill."" He believed in taking care of your family, honesty, and a lot of hard work.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Barbara Durham DuPree of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Steve Ellington, Jena and Dack Finnell, and son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Kelly DuPree, all of Lufkin. He was lovingly known as ""Pa Bill"" to his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Kristi McCullough and husband Dennis, Kathy McNeese and husband Landon, Ryan Finnell, Reagan Finnell, Mason DuPree and Kailyn DuPree. Great grandchildren are Breann and Jasper McNeese, Fenley and Chesney McCullough. He is also survived by sisters, Jean Cobb of Reno, Nevada, and Marie McAdams of Diboll; brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Wanda DuPree, Marvin and Stella DuPree, both of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a multitude of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Pauline Herrington, Jewel Fancher and Betty Haak; brothers, James DuPree and Leo DuPree; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, F.C. and Ruth Durham.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
