Funeral services for Walter S. Lawrence, 78, of Hudson will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Horace Fletcher and Brother Kent Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the Glendale Cemetery.
Mr. Lawrence was born December 3, 1931 in Livingston, Texas to the late Dedie (Ogden) and Millard S. Lawrence, and died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mr. Lawrence resided in Hudson most of his life. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army, 25th Artillery, and retired from LCTX following 42 years of service, including more than 18 years in Diboll, where he established and maintained many close relationships. Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Hudson Water Board for 12 years, and a lifetime member of the Lufkin VFW. Post 1836. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he was the ""sound man"" for 11 years.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Peggy Byron Lawrence of Hudson; daughters and sons-in-law, Dian Lawrence of Louisiana, Terrie and Mac Wise of Lufkin and Amie and Steve Wood of Hudson; grandchildren and their spouses, Daryl Stokes, Sirena Stokes and Gary Rector, all of Diboll, Trey and Jennifer Stokes of Lufkin, Traci Higginbotham and Robbin Edwards of Hudson and Julie Wise and fiance Nick Childers of Clinton, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Richardson, Lauryn Richardson, Jaylee Wilson, Danyale Stokes, Austin Stokes, Brylee Stokes and Landon Rector; brother and sister-in-law, Winston and Vada Lawrence of Hudson; sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Jimmy Channel of Rusk; mother-in-law, Oree Hallmark of Athens; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eddie Williams of Hempstead, Sonja Schafer of Canton, Kathy Carpenter of Houston, Carolyn and Tom Duckworth of Canton, Mitsy and David Morgan of Lufkin and Karon and Tony Tolbert of Athens; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Jane Byron of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie Lawrence and Earl Lawrence; sister, Odessa Durham; and nephew, Michael P. Lawrence.
Pallbearers will be Steve Lawrence, Gary Lawrence, Rick Lawrence, Byron Morgan, Scotty Morgan and Stacy Cook.
Honorary pallbearers will be LCTX installation and repair techs.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
