Zackey E. "J.R." Burns

Memorial services for Zackey E. “J.R.” Burns, 69, of Huntington will be held Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church with Brother Trey Thompson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Burns was born September 18, 1956 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Shirley Ann (Anthony) and Zackey Edmond Burns, Sr., and died Wednesday, May 13, 2026 in a local hospital. He was a lifetime resident of Angelina County and was a truck driver for many years. Mr. Burns was a member of Promise Land Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Theresa Burns of Diboll, and Jay and Amanda Burns of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine and Stephen Wells of Diboll, Lora and Tommy Thompson of Central, and Donna and John McAdams of Diboll; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Linda Shelley and Helen and Kenny Faires, all of Huntington; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the church prior to the services.
