Wilma Smith

Funeral services for Wilma Smith, 93, of Lufkin will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Karen Shumaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Wells.

Mrs. Smith was born May 13, 1930 in Cushing, Texas to the late Lilly (Rushing) and Otis Martin, and died Thursday, January 25, 2024 in a local hospital.

Wilma was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at the state school as a dorm supervisor, as well as a loyal greeter at Walmart for over 12 years. Family was Wilma’s number one priority. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She always looked forward to the holidays because she knew she would see all the family together. Wilma enjoyed camping and hunting, and if she wasn’t in the deer stand, you could find her back at camp cooking for the crew. Her family remembers her ability to love unconditionally. If you were blessed to have Wilma in your life, you were loved without end.

Survivors include her sons, Mike Smith, Paul and Tammy Smith, both of Lufkin; daughters, Margaret Lowe and husband Dwayne of Lufkin, Brenda Bell and husband Jim Randall of Pollok, Angie Warner of Lufkin; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert “Buck” Smith in 2002; son-in-law, Bobby Warner; and grandson, Chad Grimes.

Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Daniel Warner, Jason Warner, Jim Ryan Bell, Jim Randall Bell, and Chandler Reece.

Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Haygan Smith, Cade Grimes, Myles Simmons, Parker Petty, Paxton Petty, Cason Warner, Tanner Richardson, Colter Richardson, Jim Ryder Bell, Huntly Smith, Cole Grimes, Reid Looney, and Rylan Graham.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Monday morning prior to the service.
