William Edward Gates, Sr.

Funeral services for William Edward Gates, Sr. 77, of Lufkin will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Keith Woolf officiating. Interment will follow in the Homer Cemetery.

Mr. Gates was born December 5, 1946 in Huntsville, Texas to the late Elma Rhea (Hartless) and Lloyd Edwards Gates, and died Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in a local hospice facility.

Mr. Gates retired from Consolidated Communications after working more than 30 years as an Outside Service Technician. He served his country in the United States Army. He loved all forms of motor sports and especially enjoyed drag racing and visiting with friends at the track. Mr. Gates attended Ozias Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Gates of Lufkin; sons, Bill Gates of Huntington, Jason Gates and wife Aimee of LaVernia; grandchildren, Claire Gates and fiancé Wesley Pack, Lainey Gates and special friend Jackson Sheffield, William “Liam” Gates III; brothers, Ricky Gates, Marty Gates, Troy Gates, all of Livingston, Woody Gates and wife Kim, Ricky Putman, all of Conroe; sister, Donna Rabel and husband Darrell of Conroe; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and special friends, Kimberly Johnson, Kent Jones, and Richard Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Clary, Brandon Jones, Dennis Gilcrease, Jason Stuck, Shayne Dickerson, and Byron Morgan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ozias Missionary Baptist Church Youth Department, 254 Ozias Road, Huntington, Texas 75949.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
