Visitation for Warren Stacy Guy, DDS, PhD, 81, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be held.
Dr. Guy was born September 7, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to the late Mary Katherine “Kittie” (Sloan) and Joseph Cleburne “Jake” Guy, and died Monday, January 8, 2024 at his residence.
A Genuine Christian
Warren was a man who earnestly sought the Lord every day. His life was dedicated to serving Him and doing what the Bible taught. He sought to have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. His love for Christ guided his life and his decisions. He loved God and followed His commandments. Having been observed closely over an extended period, it is evident that he was a man in whom there was no guile. Consistently, he presented himself with the same demeanor to everyone and maintained impeccable integrity.
In 1980, Warren and his son, David, were involved in a serious car accident. David almost died. Warren, on his knees before God, dedicated his life anew to Him. From that point on, he was a changed man. No longer was he a Christian in name only; now he lived his faith every day and sought to be a true disciple of Christ in every aspect of his life.
Loving
Warren had a wellspring of love for his family, friends, strangers, and anyone he met. He showed his love by serving, giving his time and resources, and offering exhortation and encouragement. Warren always took time to get to know people, striking up conversations with perfect strangers to learn their life histories. He offered advice and compassion, consistently pointing everyone to the Lord as the answer to whatever challenges they faced.
Generous Giver
Warren was a generous giver, often giving in secret, so the full extent of his immense and wide-reaching contributions may never be fully known. His extravagant generosity benefited countless individuals, ministries, and orphanages. He devoted considerable time to finding worthy recipients, always motivated by his love for blessing others.
Service
Warren was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ. He dedicated his time to his family, his wife, and those in need. For years, he taught Bible classes at his home and at a homeless shelter. He also organized free dental clinics for indigent individuals on various occasions. Additionally, Warren undertook mission trips to Mexico and Africa, where he provided free dental care.
Love of Family
Warren cherished his family deeply. He adored his wife, demonstrating great tenderness and selflessness in their 56 years of marriage. His love extended to his children and was evident in his tireless efforts to provide them with a successful life. Always prioritizing their best interests, he made significant sacrifices. He also delighted in spending time with his ten grandchildren. Together, they shared numerous adventures in the mountains and at the beach. He loved his parents, Jake and Kitty Guy as well as his brother, Hank Guy.
Full of Joy
Warren was an embodiment of joy. Being around him, it was difficult to remain downhearted for long. He had a knack for lighting up a room, often initiating conversations on significant or even controversial topics. Known for “stirring the pot,” he could spark a lively debate, always maintaining a spirit of good fun. Warren enjoyed teasing and bringing laughter to those around him. His infectious laugh was a source of delight, spreading joy to anyone who heard it.
Exhorter & Encourager
Warren was a compelling exhorter. He dedicated time to listening to others' troubles and then provided insightful solutions. Enthusiastically, he would guide you through the process of addressing your challenges, always excited for your success. Recognizing greatness in everyone, he encouraged people to achieve their highest potential. He was known for offering abundant advice, and though not always solicited, it was evident that he always had others' best interests at heart.
Teacher
Warren spent many years teaching college classes, developing into a passionate and accomplished educator. He also devoted himself to homeschooling his children, and educated his grandchildren in various complex subjects, including advanced math, biology, and theology. His love for sharing and teaching from the Bible was evident. A man of brilliance, Warren possessed a vast and profound knowledge that spanned across the world, science, and the principles of being a follower of Christ.
Outdoorsman
Warren cherished the great outdoors, fostering a love for the mountains in his family. He organized camping trips, horseback expeditions, and beach visits, feeling most alive in nature. He was a park ranger in Yellowstone and he and Carolyn were married in the Chapel of Transfiguration in the Grand Teton National Park. He enjoyed long canoe trips in the north with his wife and even crossed the continental divide with his infant son, David, on his back. Warren also deeply valued spending time at his timber property, dedicating countless days to its upkeep.
Successful Businessman & Diligent Worker
For 39 years, Warren successfully ran a dental practice. He had a genuine passion for serving children and those in need. Treating his staff like family, he cultivated a warm and supportive work environment. Warren was known for his diligence and hard work, consistently achieving seemingly unattainable goals.
Researcher
As a University of Florida researcher, Warren was pivotal in identifying harmful fluorinated compounds, including PFOS, in human blood. His 1975 inquiry into a unique fluoride form led to extensive research, uncovering global contamination and advancing understanding of these chemicals' environmental impact.
Warren lived an extraordinary life, filled with love, encouragement, generosity, and faithful service. A devoted follower of Jesus Christ, he consistently directed others towards God. His influence and legacy stand as a testament to his remarkable life and character.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Guy; his son, David Guy; his daughter, Amy Steele; and his ten grandchildren: Katie, Laura, Grant, Reid, and Grayson Steele, as well as Victoria, Adriana, Joseph "Jake," Jonas, and Nicholas Guy.
Pallbearers will be David Guy, Joseph Guy, Nicholas Guy, Grant Steele, Aaron Wright, and Reid Steele.
