Funeral services for Warren Elwyn Ferden, 82, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jerome Brimmage officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Ferden was born September 23, 1936 in West Bend, Iowa to the late Violet (Stone) and Elmer Ferden. He joined his Lord and Savior Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Ferden was a member of Lufkin First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Lufkin Evening Lions Club where he held the title of President.
Warren met the love of his life in 1955, Melba Foshee. They were married in 1958 and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2018.
Mr. Ferden, being very passionate about his country and what our flag stands for, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Strategic Air Command, maintaining bombing and navigational systems on B-47 aircraft at the Little Rock, Arkansas Air Force Base.
Warren loved his time with his family more than anything. He had various hobbies as well. He loved to fish, always trying to out-fish Melba. He also kept an interest in woodworking and made numerous keepsakes for his family. He also loved working and tinkering with watches and clocks.
Mr. Ferden is survived by his loving wife, Melba (Foshee) Ferden of Lufkin; son, Mark Ferden and wife Regina of Lufkin; daughter, Julie Ferden McElveen of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Tara and Wesley Bailey, Ryan and Megan Ferden, Chad and Sable McElveen, Robin and Hunter Cockrell, Jason and Sarah Vest, Mark and Katie Vest, Justin and Devin Evans; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Bailey, Ethan Ferden, Owen Ferden, Jacob Cockrell, Tanner Evans, Emma Evans, Tinsley Evans, Maggie Evans, Gunner Vest, Gannon Vest, and Riley Vest; sister, Priscilla Peck of Algona, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and many faithful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Ferden, Chad McElveen, Wesley Bailey, Hunter Cockrell, Don Ridgeway, and Sherman Snelson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Mack Welch, Richard Giddens, Al Willett, Bobby Hinkie, and Lyman Eppley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin First United Methodist Church, 805 E. Denman Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75901.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
