Do not dwell on the past, for behold I AM doing a new thing!! Isaiah 43 .
Wanda Faye Skipper was born in Crockett, TX on September 13, 1927 and entered into the presence of her Lord on May 15, 2019.
Her parents, Jesse and Letha Mae Skipper, reared a spirited and energetic daughter who was intentional in all she did. Graduating from Crockett High School, Class of 1945, she set her eyes on Sam Houston College.
But Mike C Milliff, a decorated World War II hero from Refugio, TX happened through Crockett that summer and changed her life forever! They soon were married, and had 3 children: Janet, Becky and Scott.
In 1955, they found a true home in Lufkin, serving at First United Methodist Church and working in the community. Wanda was bookkeeper for Sumners Pontiac and was a member of the Lufkin Literary Club for 60 years. She played bridge in several clubs for just as long.
After Mike passed away in 1971, her life took another shift: she accepted a job at Angelina Community College in the Business Office. Then, after a lengthy courtship, she married Bill Trout in 1977. They enjoyed traveling, and delighted in combining their families, beginning many traditions that included adventures at the beach and special holidays.
Wanda was a long-time member of Lufkin First UMC and then the First Presbyterian Church of Lufkin. She was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class where she taught, and she faithfully attended the Tuesday Morning Circle. She was both a shepherd and a light to those around her.
Wanda especially loved crossword puzzles and words in general. She also enjoyed Ellen Trout Zoo and loved visiting and sharing the story of the zoo with her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her courageous strength, her can do attitude and her encouraging spirit. Her family brought her joy, love and an abundant life.
Those devoted to her are her daughter, Janet and husband Mark Kennedy; daughter, Becky and husband Richard Oates; son, Scott Milliff; also Barbara Corbett, William Trout, Charles Trout and wife Suzanne, and George Trout and wife Kristin; grandchildren - oldest to youngest, Michael Oates and wife Kacy, Rebecca Hunt and husband Zach, Daniel Oates and wife Rebecca, Jennifer Dwire and husband Adam, Kenneth Corbett and wife Caitlin, Stephen Corbett and wife Emily, Abel Ortega, Addie Trout, Henry and Kate Trout; 10 great-grands; sister, Frieda Coon; and many nieces and nephews. Along with many lifelong friends was her special friend, Opal Sumners. Her faithful sidekick, Benji, will miss her dearly.
Many thanks to PineCrest Retirement Community for meeting needs at every stage of her journey. A special thanks to Dr. Satish Velagapudi and appreciation to Hospice in the Pines. We will be forever grateful.
