Wanda Kay Hooper Curbow passed away from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25, 2026, at her residence in Lufkin with her loving husband by her side.
Services for Wanda Curbow will be held Monday, March 2, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Ronnie Frankens and assisted by Pastor Gentry Wilkerson of Greater Love Tabernacle. Interment will follow at Old Sardis Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Carroway Funeral Home.
Wanda Curbow, 73, was born in San Augustine County, Texas on October 8, 1952, to Charlie Greene Hooper and Georgie Ethel Rollins Hooper. She was married to the love of her life, David Harold Curbow, on Valentine’s Day 1975. She recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. She was of the Christian faith and loved God, trusting Him with her life and His understanding. Her greatest pride and joy was loving her family.
Wanda attended Center High School. After graduation she moved to Louisiana as an operator for Southwestern Bell in Bossier. She relocated to Lufkin, Texas and was married to David H. Curbow in 1975. She worked for Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange for 35 years and retired.
In Wanda’s own words her greatest achievement was her children. She rejoiced in time spent with her husband, kids, grandchildren, and extended family. She was a devoted mom insuring her children participated in anything they aspired to. She was the wind beneath her children’s wings. She spent a decade and a half at Morris Frank Park helping to coach, participating on the board, and volunteering as a team mom. She was at every event, dance rehearsal, choir show, ball game, tennis match, and award ceremony. To her children she was a Superhero.
Wanda loved her parents and her siblings beyond measure. She celebrated and rejoiced with family in all things. She actively took part in many family functions planning and preparing food and decorations for celebration. She had an authentic and unwavering love for all of her siblings they were her confidants and sounding boards for life.
Wanda, in the spare time she found in such a busy life, also enjoyed a great book, a good movie, cooking for her friends and family, and gardening to plant tulips and roses.
She leaves a legacy of imparted wisdom, the example of unwavering love, compassion and understanding beyond measure. Her entire family is blessed for having her in their lives and will continue to live by her example of love, loyalty, and never-ending faith.
She is survived by her husband, David H. Curbow of Lufkin; daughters, Amie Curbow Hung and husband Tony of The Woodlands, Jaclyn Curbow Childers and husband Craig, and Amber Curbow Black and husband Justin, all of Hudson; son, Jonathan Curbow and wife Amanda of Lufkin; grandchildren, Carter Hung, Eric Hung, Madilyn Childers, Jayden Black, Morgan Black, Jackson Black, and Kason Hillin; brother, Hoyt Hooper and wife Jane of Doyline, Louisiana; sisters, Charlene Pigg and husband Jackey of Lufkin, Georgia Marshburn of Central, Delorse Martinez and husband Dave of Diboll, and Zelma Litzmann and husband James of Huntsville; sisters-in-law, Deborah Jacks and husband Bobby, and Marie Hight, all of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Maureen Broadway Hooper and Bonnie Sue Free; brothers, Tim Hooper, Durwood Hooper and Doyle Ray Hooper; parents-in-law, Harold and Barbara Curbow; sister-in-law, Karen Curbow; and brother-in-law, George Curbow.
Pallbearers are nephews: Marty Pigg, Corey Pigg, Jared Pigg, Kristopher Drane, Richard Free, and Charlie Free.
