Funeral services for Walter H. “Taxi” Hundley, Sr., 95, of Lufkin will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Hundley was born April 9, 1930, in Snow Creek, Virginia to the late Sallie Lou Bousman and George Francis Hundley, and passed away peacefully at his residence on October 3, 2025.
Taxi dedicated much of his life to his career, initially working as a pipefitter. He later advanced to the position of construction superintendent and ultimately retired from Fluor Daniels. His strong work ethic and leadership left a lasting impression on those who worked with him. Mr. Hundley was a devoted husband and father, remembered for the deep love he shared with his family. He cherished entertaining loved ones with stories from his childhood. Among his favorite pastimes was relaxing on his back porch and enjoying the company of family and friends. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and was known for his devotion to the Lord and his willingness to serve others. His laughter and storytelling brought joy to many and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Vickie (Grady) Reeves of Troy, AL, Walter (Sheri) Hundley Jr. of Freeport, FL, Vanette Hundley of Colorado, Verna Hundley of Pensacola, FL, Jane (David) Chamberlin of Friendswood,TX, Randy Stacy of Mont Velieu,TX, Robin (Tommy) Medlock of Dickinson, TX, and Richie (Sarah) Chittum of La Marque, TX. His legacy continues through his grandchildren and their spouses: Jason (Elly) Reeves, John Reeves, Joshua (Chelsea) Webb, Christi (Chris) Powell, Jaime Webb, Alison (Adam) Leja, Amy Drinkard, and Katie (Colton) Plumley, Lindsay (Patrick) Ewart, Haley (Cameron) Chamberlin, Dora (Drake) Nettles, Brooke (Jamin) Stevenson, Ashli Stacy, Bryson (Nikki) Stacy, Jessica (Jeremy) Williams, Matthew (Maryann) Medlock, Sarah (Joshua) Wilson, Chad (Chaney) Chittum, Codee Chittum and Cason Chittum. He was blessed with 44 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to his special friends Lynn Orlof, Dr. Vic Mangla, and Brenda Moore.
Taxi was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dora Grigsby Hundley, who passed away on July 15, 2025, and his fourteen siblings.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to his personal caregivers, Liz Rauma, Teresa Copeland, Pam Amaya and Dakota Scott for their dedicated and compassionate care of Taxi, and Louise Golden, Lisa Powell and Shelby Torres of Elite Hospice.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the service at the church.
