Funeral services for W L Scott, 90, of Zavalla will be held Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Luther Bolenbarker officiating. Graveside Services with military honors will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Mr. Scott was born March 28, 1927 in Texas City, Texas to the late Lena Docia (Smithson) and Wiley Luther Scott, and died Monday, December 4, 2017 in a local hospital.

Mr. Scott had resided in Zavalla for the past 43 years. He served in the United States Navy as a Seaman and was an Electrician employed by Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City for 28 years. In his younger days he was a successful rodeo cowboy where he was awarded the All-Around Cowboy for the State of Texas. When he was no longer able to ride he became a rodeo clown. He was the last of seven siblings and retired to East Texas because he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a private pilot. He enjoyed doing handyman work for his friends and neighbors. He was blessed to be able to be active working in lawn care for himself and others until his death.

Mr. Scott was a loving dad and granddad to his children and grandchildren. He loved the Lord and was an active member of the Huntington Church of Christ.

Survivors include his sons, Ray Gilbert, Jr. and wife Joan and Vasco Keith Gilbert, Sr. and wife Linda, all of Fredericksburg; daughter, Mignon Buchanan and husband Rick, Sr. of Dickinson; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mona Hollemon Scott; daughter, Mona Pastucek; granddaughter, Nikkole Kettle; sisters, Jennie Lee Quebe, Louise Ohlund, and Dorothy Mae Pearson; and brothers, Vernon Walter Scott, Andrew Jackson Scott, and Donald Clifton Scott.

Pallbearers will be Clay Hertenberger, Keith Gilbert, Jr., Rick Buchanan, Sr., Rick Buchanan, Jr., Aaron Gilbert, and Melvin Gordy II.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Gilbert, Chris Gordy, Thomas Neuman, Ray Gilbert, Jr., and Joel Olives.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
