Virginia Ann "Ginny" Taylor

June 4, 1924 — January 23, 2018

We will celebrate the beautiful life and heavenly homecoming of Virginia Ann Taylor, 93, of Lufkin Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Henderson Chapel of Lufkin First United Methodist Church with Virginia’s grandson, Senior Pastor Chris Taylor of Marysville Community Church, Washington and Rev. Dr. Jerome Brimmage, Senior Pastor of Lufkin First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Virginia Taylor was born June 4, 1924 in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Edna Pauline (Gilmore) and Theodore Albert Draim, and died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the George Henderson Memory Support Center at PineCrest Methodist Retirement Community in Lufkin. Virginia had resided in Lufkin since 1982.

Virginia received her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and her Master of Science in Dietetics from Ohio State University. She was a Licensed Dietician and very accomplished in her field, serving in a wide variety of positions in the Food Service area and in a number of prestigious institutions. However, her last full-time position as the Clinical Dietician at the Lufkin State Supported Living Center, was probably closest to her heart. She loved the residents and served them with compassion and kindness and had a special group of co-workers (known fondly as the “June Bugs”) who became some of her most treasured friends. During her long and successful career, she was a mentor to a number of Dieticians, who appreciate Virginia for giving them a chance and modeling the importance of a high standard of practice. These special ladies are a part of Virginia’s legacy, as well as her life-long friends. In September 1998, Virginia received her recognition as a 50-year member of the American Dietetic Association.

Virginia loved to travel and was blessed to have visited many countries in Europe and the Middle East. However, her most treasured trip was to the Holy Land with her FUMC family. Virginia was a faithful member of Lufkin First United Methodist Church. She loved her church family, especially her Sunday school class, “The Fellowship Class”, who will serve as her honorary pallbearers.

Virginia’s surviving loved ones include Pastor Chris Taylor and wife Haley and sons Clark and Luke of Marysville, Washington, Lauren Taylor Lustig and husband Josh of Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Debra Burton and husband Curtis of Lufkin, Bill Taylor and wife Denise of San Antonio, and Taylor Boone and wife Allison and daughters Catherine and Virginia of San Antonio.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, William Andrew Taylor, Sr.

Ginny, as she was affectionately known by family and friends, will be greatly missed.
