Velma Melton

Memorial services for Velma Melton, 87, of Huntington will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Pat Mayse Lake, Sanders Cove, Loop C Pavillion in Chicota, Texas with Brother Jeff Morgan officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Ms. Melton was born May 15, 1937 in Paris, Texas to the late Bertha Mae (Smithy) and Mark Thomas Melton, and passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 at her residence in her room that she loved overlooking the lake.

Velma worked for Campbell Soup Company as a Forklift Operator, retiring after 30 years of employment. After retirement, she went back to school to earn her CNA certification and took care of others well up into her 70’s. She is remembered as a sweet soul with a quick sense of humor that would always put a smile on your face. She will be missed deeply by those who were blessed to have known her.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sherina and Leeland Sanford; granddaughters, Misti Stanley and husband John, Vanessa Lougtry and husband Jeremy, Ashley Thomas, McKensey Thomas; grandsons, Timothy Thomas, Jayson Thomas; great-grandsons, Brayden Stanley, Dylan Stanley and wife Alexis, Cade Glenn; twin sister, Thelma Chesney; brother, Billy Melton and wife Dede; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and treasured friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two beloved sons, Tim Thomas and Alvin Thomas.
