Velma Marline Hanes

Funeral services for Velma Marline Hanes, 73, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ricky Hanes officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mrs. Hanes was born September 3, 1951 in Jasper, Texas to the late Eva Irene (Couey) and James Bufford Matthews, and died Thursday, August 21, 2025 at her residence.

Velma worked as a supervisor at Ray’s Drive In for 24 years. She loved to cook for her family and she was the best cook ever! She loved to take care of others and she would go without if needed to help others. She was a loving mother to her three children and adored her grandchildren. Velma enjoyed gardening and she was of the Assemblies of God faith.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Hanes of Huntington, Christopher Hanes and wife Paula of Lufkin; daughter, Melissa Holt of Pollok; grandchildren, Devin, Landon, Liberty, Ashley, Chelsey, Adam; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, Mason, BreAnna, Allysa, Shane, Serinity, Cooper, Jacksten, Maverick, Karlie, Noah, Navy; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Hanes, Sr.; and infant grandson, Brandon.

Pallbearers will be Jason Dennis, Thomas Williams, Sergio Garcia, Dillion Huppe, Mason Dennis, and Adam Holt.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
