Funeral services for Vallie Jewel Benefield Wynne, 83, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Steve Cowart officiating. A private burial will be held in Gilbert Chapel Cemetery.
Born Vallie Jewel Benefield to Earl and Myrtle (Rogers) Benefield on February 14, 1942. She passed Saturday, September 6, 2025 at home with her family.
She married Travis Earl Wynne on July 23, 1960. They were together 56 years until his death in 2016. They moved to Lufkin in 1966 and she was a stay-at home mom until 1996. Mrs. Wynne was a devoted employee for Slack Elementary at Lufkin ISD for 25 years. She loved the kids, workers and teachers and they all loved her back. Vallie enjoyed being with her family, sewing, cooking for get-togethers, and most of all being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Annette Adkins of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Glenda Wynne, Kennith and Darla Wynne, all of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Tony, Jr. and Jennifer Adkins of Lufkin, Timothy and Shauna Adkins of Camden, South Carolina, Kellie and Rickey Meza of College Station, Colton and Cassidy Wynne of Huntington, Kyle Wynne of Austin; great-grandchildren, Dean William Adkins, Wyatt Earl Adkins, Kaelyn Marie Meza, Richard Travis “Trey” Meza, Carter Hayes Wynne, Nova Grace Wynne; sister and brother-in-law, Ila and Dale Mayfield of Lufkin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Joe Benefield of Springhill, Louisiana, Cecil and Joyce Benefield, Johnny and Kaye Benefield, all of Haynesville, Louisiana; sisters-in-law, Norma Ruth Benefield of Monroe, Louisiana, Mary Lou Benefield of San Augustine, Texas, Martha Watson and husband Herman of Magnolia, Arkansas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Travis Earl Wynne; daughter, Beverly Anita Wynne; son-in-law, Tony Adkins, Sr.; granddaughter, Mary Grace Wynne; sister, Stella Slaton; brother-in-law, Russell Slaton; and brothers, Eugene Benefield and Ralph Benefield.
Pallbearers will be Tony Adkins, Jr., Timothy Adkins, Colton Wynne, Kyle Wynne, Rickey Meza, and Phillip Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gilbert Chapel Cemetery Care Corporation, c/o Dennis Vansau, P.O. Box 141, Huntington, Texas 75949.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service.
