Funeral services for Tommy Gene Woody, 87, of Huntington will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Huntington First Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Woody was born April 18, 1930 in Sweetwater, Texas to the late Vera (Landers) and Archie Gilmore Woody, and died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Lufkin.
Mr. Woody grew up in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School and went to work in the plumbing business, eventually entering the family plumbing business. He joined the Army National Guard at age 18 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, stationed in Puerto Rico. He rejoined the family plumbing business until the economy in Abilene forced its closure, and he pursued work first in the Dallas area and then in Houston.
Mr. Woody made a profession of faith in Christ as a young man under the ministry of the Salvation Army. Mr. Woody resided in Baytown from 1965 to 2013 where he served as Associate Pastor of Fisher Road Baptist Mission of Second Baptist Church Baytown under Pastor Cyrus Fletcher. He was a member of the Plumbers Local 68, Houston, the National Plumbers Union, and Pipefitters Union. Mr. Woody was involved in the construction of many skyscrapers in Houston. He retired from commercial plumbing in 1995 and became active with the Texas Baptist Men, building several churches until his health declined in 2003 when he was found to have a brain tumor. His wife, Wanda Ruth, was his faithful helpmate at his side for almost 70 years. Mr. Woody had resided in Huntington since 2013 and was a member of Huntington First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Ruth (Renfro) Woody of Huntington; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Tommy Delozier of Huntington; son and daughter-in-law, Michel Gene and Judy Woody of Richmond; grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca and Anthony Leakey, Daron and Deana Delozier, Kelly, Sarah, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Jordon, Keaton, Abby, and Julie; twin brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jo Woody of Moulton, Alabama; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Marjie Woody of Pensacola, Florida and Kenneth and Joy Woody of Amarillo; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Woody; and sister, Tessa Evelyn Woody Barentine.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. Renfro and Eldon E. Renfro.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the George Henderson Unit at PineCrest Retirement Community and Hospice in the Pines for their outstanding care and loving kindness.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
