Funeral services for Tommy Earl Wood, 78, of Conroe, formerly of Lufkin, will be held Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Clayton McClendon and Brother Adrian Neal officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Wood was born July 24, 1939 in Oxford, Arkansas to the late Neva (Taylor) and Arthur Wood, and died Saturday, May 26, 2018 surrounded by family.
Mr. Wood had resided in Conroe for twenty years and formerly resided in Lufkin. He served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for seven years during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated his own businesses working in construction, service stations, satellites, dirt work, and mobile home sales and transport, mentoring many along the way. He enjoyed being on machinery moving dirt and would often work from dawn until dusk. He enjoyed learning new things, loved taking on any challenge and quickly became an expert at anything he tried. He loved spending time at the lake and traveling in his RV throughout the country, sight-seeing every state, including Alaska and Canada. He was a member of FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) Thousand Trails of Texas Chapter. He never met a stranger and stayed in contact with many people he met through his travels. Mr. Wood was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Olga Wood of Conroe; children, Melissa Warnasch and husband Michael of Lufkin, Thomas Wood of Porter, Debra Gonzalez and husband Ric of Cypress; grandchildren, Madison and Micah Warnasch, Peyton Wood, and Ava and Jude Gonzalez; sisters, Maxine Bishop and Mary Ellen McClendon and husband Clayton, all of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald Wood, J.C. Wood, and Bobby Wood.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Wood, Micah Warnasch, Peyton Wood, Jude Gonzalez, Michael Warnasch, Ric Gonzalez, and Joe Castillo.
Honorary pallbearer is John Decker.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
