T.J. Johnson

Graveside services for T.J. Johnson, 85, of Lufkin will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Largent Cemetery with his grandson, Zach P. Johnson, granddaughter, Kristel Hise and her husband Coy, and great-granddaughter, Gracie Hise officiating.

Mr. Johnson was born February 7, 1936 in Weches, Texas to the late Hester Estelle (Williams) and Herbert Lee Johnson, and died Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in a local hospital.

Mr. Johnson retired as a foreman from what began as Southland Paper Mill following 35 years of employment. He loved animals, riding horses, fishing and boating. In his early years he liked water skiing. Mr. Johnson coached Little League baseball for many years. He enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. He attended Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Margaret Carol (Bond) Johnson of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Prentice Lee and Mary Helen Johnson of Lufkin; son, Ronald D. Johnson and deceased wife Marie Dianne (Cox) Johnson, of Lufkin; grandchildren and spouses, Kristel and Coy Hise, Zachary P. and Joanna Johnson, Sonny and Brianne Lawson; great-grandchildren, Gracie Hise, Jody Hise, Emersen Johnson, Piper Johnson, and Liam Prentice Lawson; brother, John Johnson; sisters, Joycie Barringer, Dell Cole, Marie Hughes, Nellie Kay Whisenant, and Jerri Rector; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert Lee Johnson, Jr. and James Johnson; and four brothers-in-law.
