Timothy Cecil Richerson, 82, of Lufkin died Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at his residence. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Mr. Richerson was born July 7, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Gladys (Swanzy) and William Cecil Richerson.
Timothy Richerson, lovingly known as “Papaw”, was a gift to his family, and in return, his family was a gift to him, a bond of love that flowed both ways and enriched every life it touched. He earned his MBA from North Texas State University and built a career in human resources, where his understanding of people and steady wisdom served him well. Later in life, he chose to retire early to be closer to his parents as they aged, a decision that also gave him the precious gift of more time with his family.
Mr. Richerson found great joy in working with his hands. He built everything from potting sheds and shops to furniture, birdhouses, and decorations, always creating something meaningful. He was the kind of father and grandfather every child hopes for, building playhouses and swings, teaching games like poker just for fun, and filling the days with laughter. His wit was sharp and enduring, bringing smiles to those around him even in his later years. After a day of playing hard with the grandkids, he could often be found relaxing in a hammock, content simply being near those he loved.
Family traditions meant everything to him, especially the cherished annual trips to Crystal Beach, where generations gathered to make memories together. He valued his time and spent it wisely, creating, laughing, and loving his family well. His presence was a steady and joyful one, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy (Whitwell) Richerson; daughter, Lara Richerson; stepdaughter, Suzanne James; stepson, David Cellars; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Yarbrough; son-in-law, Michael Wayne James; and grandchildren, Christopher David Cellars, Sara Noel Cellars, Austin Dakota Yarbrough, and Amberly Nicole James.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jill Richerson.
