Thurman H. Whitaker

Thurman H. Whitaker, 86, of Lufkin, was born on December 22, 1934, in Pikeville, Kentucky, the son of the late Clara Ellen (Sharp) and Homer Marian Whitaker. He died Thursday, June 10, 2021, in Lufkin. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Mr. Whitaker served his country in the United States Army.  He had resided in Lufkin since 1979 and had been employed as a Staff Manager for American General Insurance.  He was a minister who had served in Illinois, as well as in Houston and Hudson.  Mr. Whitaker was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jeb Bergstrom of Lufkin; son, Timothy Whitaker of Houston; grandsons and wives, Jessie and Julie Bergstrom of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Anthony and Ryan Bergstrom of Houston; and great grandchildren Audrey Rae, Dylan Stuart, and Vivian Kate.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Jo Kendall and Patsy Belcher.

The family extends special thanks to the Neches House, Affinity Hospice, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their excellent care of Mr. Whitaker.
