Thomas F. "Tommy" Hopson

Funeral services for Thomas F. “Tommy” Hopson, 83, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, June 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Spann officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Mr. Hopson was born December 25, 1933 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ida Myrtle (Dickerson) and Madison Royan Hopson, and died Friday, June 2, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Hopson was a lifetime resident of Lufkin and was a 1955 Lufkin High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hopson retired from Cook’s Caged Eggs and had also worked for Pepsi, Texas Foundries, William George, Holsom, and Sunbeam Bread Company.

Mr. Hopson loved playing and coaching youth baseball. He was a huge Lufkin High School football fan. You could find him watching every home game during football season at Section G, Row 9. Mr. Hopson was a member of Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene for over 75 years.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Carol (Thigpen) Hopson of Lufkin; daughters, Karon Renee Hopson, Sherry Hopson, Regena Gresham and husband Ted, all of Lufkin, and Cathy Delaney of Pollok; grandchildren, Nicole Gresham of Corrigan, Trace Gresham, Liberty Gresham, Sarah Delaney Lewis and husband Jeremy, Casandra Delaney, and Charity Cecil, all of Lufkin; nine great-grandchildren; niece, Pat Gandy of Lufkin; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Thomas “Jimmy” Hopson; brothers, Jack Hopson and Clarence Hopson; and sisters, Marie Williford and Theresa Wagner.

Pallbearers will be Tadd Price, Garland Hawk, Dane Hopson, Trace Gresham, Jeremy Lewis, and Roper Brooks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Caleb Hawk and the men of the Grace Class at Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene, 1604 S. Medford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
