Tom was born March 6, 1929 in the Rocky Springs Community of Angelina County, Texas to the late Ouida (Nerren) and Thomas Hayes Holland, Sr., and died Friday, January 5, 2018 in Lufkin.
Tom retired from the United States Postal Service in 1982 after 30 years of service. He served in the United States Air Force. Tom was a man who loved horses his entire life even when he had to stand on a box to get in the saddle. He shared his love of horses and riding and roping with anyone who wanted to participate in his favorite pastime and was a willing and patient teacher. His second favorite pastime was telling stories and “talking about old times”. We will miss his stories about what the weather was on any given day in the last 80 years. Tom attended Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Fay Nell Holland; niece, Sharon Gates Murrell and husband Bill; great-niece, Susan Murrell Cornett and husband Neal; and special friends, Milt and Mary Bradford and Garrett Bradford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Holland Hovey.
Pallbearers will be Clayton Carroll Richardson, Jim Wall, Freddy Johnson, Lonnie Nerren, Joe Collmorgen, and Ted Ivy.
