Funeral services for Thomas Edward “Tom” Brown, 82, of Lufkin will be held Friday, July 10, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Huntington First Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Williams and Brother Bob Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Treadwell Cemetery.
Tom was born December 17, 1943 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Molly Ruth (Davis) and Clyde Edward Brown, and passed away, Saturday, July 4, 2026 at his residence.
Tom was a 1962 graduate of San Augustine High School. His favorite sports while attending San Augustine ISD were baseball and football, where he would be offered scholarships due to being very athletic. But instead of going on to play in college, he chose to move to Houston to follow the love of his life, Melvie Walton.
They would then marry in 1964 and relocate to Huntington, with one child and one baby on the way. Tom went to work with his uncle O.T. Haygood at his Citgo station. Tom was very close to his uncle and his cousins. He truly enjoyed working with them.
Tom would then go on in the early 70s to become a fireman for the Lufkin Fire Department, which was his true passion. He had many stories, like driving the ambulance over 100 miles per hour to save a life or delivering babies in the ambulance. He received Fireman of the Year in 1975 for rescuing small children out of a burning building.
On his days off, Tom would work at his second job which was air conditioning. As the company began to grow, he chose to pursue a full-time career in A/C and heat. Tom Brown A/C & Heat, Inc. recently celebrated 50 years of business. If you knew Tom, you knew he believed in hard work and no days off, except Sundays. He was a great boss who would teach his employees hard working skills, by setting the example. Tom would also donate his time and parts to help local churches, community and families when needed. He believed in helping others.
With loving sports, Tom began coaching with his friend Larry Arnold the Huntington Youth Baseball. The young men truly loved both Tom and Larry as coaches. During the school years of baseball and football, everyone knew when Tom was at the games cheering them on very loudly.
Tom's greatest joy was becoming a grandfather. He actually would take some time off to play with the grandkids. They did everything from fishing, riding four wheelers, playing ball in the yard, and taking grandkids to Boots for candy and cokes (or chocolate milk). They all loved their PawPaw very much.
Tom was the rock for his family. He always put his family first and made sure they were taken care of. He loved his community and always felt the need to help Huntington to grow and progress. Tom truly was an amazing man of God. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
