Funeral services for Ted A. Lankford, 77, of Lufkin will be held Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reagan McClenny and Harold Hancock officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors will follow in the Trevat Cemetery in Groveton.

Mr. Lankford was born June 20, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas to the late Marjorie Ruth (Barrett) and Wallace Lankford, and died Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home in Lufkin, Texas.

Mr. Lankford resided in Lufkin, Texas, most of his life. He grew up in Trevat and soon after high school graduation he married Charlene. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a flight equipment repairman. After a successful tour in the Air Force, Mr. Lankford attended Stephen F. Austin State University earning a BBA in Accounting in 1972 and excelled in the accounting field. He and Charlene moved to Houston in 1972 where he worked as an accountant for Price Waterhouse Coopers from 1972-1974.  They then moved back to Lufkin and started to work for Alexander & Rogers, CPAs firm in 1974. Ted earned his CPA license in 1975 and later became a partner at the firm. He owned and worked as a CPA at Alexander, Lankford, and Hiers, CPAs until he retired in 2017. Ted was a trustee and treasurer for the Bone Hill Foundation and was on the board of the John and Nellie Akin Foundation. He was also a partner for the Accountants Office Investments from 1980-2017. Other memberships include AICPA, TSCPA and various civic, business and social organizations.

Far beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lankford was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a fine Christian man and a leader at Timberland Drive Church of Christ. He loved the Lord and his family and never met a stranger. He was affectionately known by his family as PaPa T. Mr. Lankford was an avid hunter and member of Renfro Hunting Club for over 30 years where he hunted with close friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Lankford of Lufkin; sons, Barrett Lankford and wife Christy of Hudson, and Doug Lankford of Flint; grandchildren, Colton Lankford and wife Ariel, Connor Lankford and wife Maddie, Cade Lankford, Blaire Young and husband Justin, Carly Olson and husband Will, and Jackson Lankford; great-grandchildren, Ryker Lankford, Wren Lankford, and Barrett John Lankford; sister, Jozy and husband Roy Truss of Lufkin and sister, Sandy and husband Donald Hensley of Lufkin; and brother-in-law, Linvell Price and wife Kay Kay Price of Huntington, Texas. Mr. Lankford had many nieces and nephews that adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Colton Lankford, Connor Lankford, Cade Lankford, Jackson Lankford, Justin Young, and Will Olson.

Honorary pallbearers will be R.V. Swor, Rodney Swor, Mike Davis, and Mike Penn.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Luke Slatter Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hudson ISD, 6735 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904, or the Timberland Drive Church of Christ, 912 S. Timberland Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening, July 20, 2024, at the funeral home.
