Susan Thornton Laird

Memorial services for Susan Thornton Laird, 65, of Zavalla will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Lane Williams officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Ms. Laird was born February 17, 1961, in Naples, Florida to the late Nellie (Kell) and Richard Thornton, and died Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at her residence.

She had resided in Zavalla for 26 years and worked as a land surveyor for Edward Griffith & Associates. Ms. Laird enjoyed sitting by a fire drinking a beer, camping, and rock hunting.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Laird of New Orleans, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Tommy Granger of Zavalla; seven granddaughters; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen and Van Reeves of Roberts, Louisiana, Emma Sellers of Kenner, Louisiana, and Virginia Carden of Babson Park, Florida; brother, Richard McGuire of Zavalla; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Tammie Weaver; and first husband, Stephen Laird. She was welcomed into Heaven by numerous family and friends.
