Funeral services for Steve “Moonpie” Evans, 58, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ford Adkins officiating. Cremation will follow under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.
Steve was born August 25, 1967 in Lufkin, Texas to the late Ruby Gene (Rhodes) and James Chauncy “J.C.” Evans, and died Sunday, July 5, 2026 at his residence. He was his mother’s blonde-haired blue-eyed angel.
Steve was a lifetime resident of Angelina County and a 1985 graduate of Central High School. He was a petroleum salesman for 25 plus years. Steve loved Cory since the day he was born. He was a mentor, father figure, big brother, protector, and uncle and loved spending time with his friends and family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Steve was a member of Clawson (now Grace) Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sisters and brother-in-law, Ann and Dennis Flowers, and Bonnie O’Quinn; brothers and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Karen Evans, and David Evans; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and his “right hand man”, Cory Modisette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Womack, Ryan Wing, Bayley Roland, Scott Williford, Jay Bennett, and Joe Don Clark.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon prior to the services.
