Funeral services for Shirley Jean Knighton, 62, of Pollok will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Corrigan with Reverend Willie Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Carrington Cemetery in Seven Oaks.
Shirley was born October 23, 1959 in Seven Oaks, Texas to the late Ted Knighton, Sr. and Lee Etta (Martin) Knighton, and passed from this life into eternity Friday, January 7, 2022.
Shirley was born with some life challenges, unable to speak and play with other children, but she would respond when her name was called. She was enrolled at the age of six in the Lufkin State Supported Living Center, which became her place of residence. In the State School she was treated with dignity and respect and had the best of nursing care. Shirley will be missed by her family and caregivers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Martha L. Knighton; and grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her memories sisters, Bennie R. Jackson of Houston, Norene Knighton of DeSoto, Linda Phillips of Seven Oaks, and Carrolyn Knighton of Diboll; brothers, Ted Knighton, Jr. of Midlothian, James Knighton of Corrigan, Garland Knighton and wife Lorraine of Corrigan, Charles Knighton of Diboll, and Robert Knighton and wife Patricia of Leggett; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Cedric Knighton, Patrick Phillips, Nicholas Phillips, Jordan Knighton, Steven Smith, Chazmond Knighton, and Patrick Stelly.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Knighton, Charles Knighton, Garland Knighton, Robert Knighton, Kristopher Knighton, and Travis Knighton.
The family of Shirley Knighton would like to thank all the nurses and caregivers at the Lufkin State Supported Living Center and all doctors and staff at Woodland Heights Medical Center for their exemplary care and compassion. We thank Reverend Willie Barnes for praying and visiting with Shirley during her time of sickness. We greatly appreciate and acknowledge all acts of kindness shown during our bereavement. We pray each of you will be showered with God’s blessings.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning prior to the services.
