Scott Sherman

August 1, 1949 — March 8, 2025

Funeral services for Scott Sherman, 75, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with Brother Steve Cowart, Sheriff Tom Selman, and Rocky Thigpen officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow in Huntington Cemetery.

Mr. Sherman was born August 1, 1949 in Beaumont, Texas to Evelyn Ailene (Smith) and Claude James Sherman, and left his earthly home and went to be with the Lord Saturday, March 8, 2025.

Scott lived a full life, a life most people dream of. After graduating from high school, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin. After graduating, Scott had an impressive resume. He joined the military, became a Sheriff's Deputy, a Detective and a State Trooper before retiring as a Financial Advisor. Scott loved all things outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping, he was a true outdoorsman. Scott also loved to cook and if you knew him, you know his recipes were "Soon to be World Famous".

In addition to loving the outdoors, Scott loved his family. He was a family man to his core. Scott married Thelma, the love of his life, in 1977 and gained his daughter, Tammy. He loved being a girl dad, where he would coach Tammy’s softball team. Scott was beyond thrilled to become a "Papaw" to Morgan, Mallorie and Taylor. He was the best grandpa. He was the Papaw who showed up to the births of his grandkids with fishing poles and pure excitement. He was at every sporting and school event, or anything that required support. His family never had to wonder if anyone would show up, because Papaw was there, and he would be the loudest supporter they had. Life became greater when his great-grandchildren, Maddox Scott (his namesake) and Kimber Shea were born, and a bonus great-granddaughter, IvieGrace. Scott was the ultimate family man who loved his family wholeheartedly.

Though our hearts are shattered on earth, we have no doubt that we will see him again. He gave his life to the Lord and lived every day for Him. We rejoice in knowing he is reunited with his father, and his granddaughter, Morgan.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma “Midget” (Forbus) Sherman of Lufkin; daughter, Tammy Seckler Sherman Greenwood and husband Ricky of Huntington; granddaughter, Mallorie Greenwood and partner Caleb of Lufkin;  grandson, Taylor Greenwood and wife Holli of Huntington; great-grandson, Maddox Greenwood of Huntington; great-granddaughters, Kimber Greenwood of Huntington; IvieGrace Reece of Lufkin; mother, Evelyn Sherman of Diana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Pat  Sherman of Diana, Gary and Barbara Sherman of Center, Ronnie and Linda Sherman of Nederland, Melvin and Nancy Sherman of Ganado; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Teresa and Doug McLeod of Cypress; special friends, Roger and Andrea Johnson, Carl Smith, and Danny Conaway; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
