Scott McGough, age 81, has “Gone Fishing”, May 16, 2026, in his Heavenly home. Born, April 24, 1945 in Marshall, Texas, to proud parents Jack and Charlie McGough, Scott started venturing alone to the fishing hole at age 4. Tales of fishing trips with friends and family were his favorites, always bringing grins and reminiscent laughs. Memories from Canada with his dad and scouts to Lake O’ the Pines, Sam Rayburn, Lake Conroe, Laguna Madre, Galveston Bay, Jamaica and Cabo… the twinkle in his eyes sure to come alive as if it was yesterday. Scott also enjoyed baseball as his dad coached, being an Eagle Scout and pulling pranks. He met Patricia Martin McGough, his lifelong mate, at age 16, informed her he was going to marry her on the first date, and treasured her for life; leading her, as he said, with the first step always: finding her. Married at 17 and 19, they held hands each step of the way, watching their crew grow with love.
J and Marni were blessed to have him as their dad… J fishing with icicles hanging off his rod because Dad said, “They’re still biting”. Marni always knowing her biggest fan was ever-present, whether it be fishing, dancing or sailing. J’s wife, Pam, also joined the family at a young age with lots of special times in store for all.
As 2-Daddy, Scott was blessed with J and Pam’s kids, Kayla and Reid, and Marni’s boys, Chase and Colt Cantrell, each learning how to mosey, bait a hook, shoot a deer and most importantly, what matters in this life, steady Christlike love. Abby and Kyle, married into the family, both felt loved by 2-Daddy’s calm and welcoming demeanor and family times at “The Hill”. A man of few, but impactful words, everyone listens up when 2-Daddy spreads his wisdom, often with humor.
Scott spoke with love and great pride of his sister Cathy McGough and her boys, Trevor and Scotty Ayers and their growing families. Kaye Alderman, his sister-in-law, and her family have many lasting memories of “Uncle Scotty”.
His in-laws, Pat and Dan Martin and brothers-in-law, Danny Martin and Bob Alderman join his parents for his welcoming crew in Heaven, along with a bunch of happy dogs! Jake, his Aussie buddy, remains on watch here with Trish.
In between finding the fish, loving and leading his family, Scott successfully pursued a degree from SFA and finance career in Lufkin, Bryan and Kerrville, Texas.
Scott leaves a legacy of love, including great grandkids he enjoys with much pride: Kayla’s Heidi, Hoyt, and Huntley Spurlock, and Colt and Hannah’s Eberly… still a tadpole.
Well done good and faithful MudCat. Save a place for Mrs. MudCat, Big’Un and Lil’ MudCat and the rest of your crew aboard. You are immensely loved, missed and always remembered. Thank you for modeling the love of our Heavenly Father. God got a keeper with you. 38
