Sandra Jean "Sandy" May

January 16, 1944 — November 14, 2023

Graveside services for Sandra Jean “Sandy” May, 79, of Lufkin will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pine Grove Cemetery with Garrel Faulkner officiating.

Sandy was born in Medford, Oregan on January 16, 1944 to Bro. John and Loreace McNeese, and passed on November 14, 2023, in a local nursing home.

Sandy was raised in church where her father was a Baptist Preacher. She graduated from Lufkin ISD and went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Education at SFA. Sandy taught school for 30 years with Lufkin ISD. After retirement, she worked for several hospice companies where she devoted her time caring for the elderly. She was a creative and crafty person, especially when it came to her family. She enjoyed designing and hand crafting stockings for each of her children and grandchildren. Sandy and best friend, Jenny Ruth, loved to paint popcorn buckets and drink hot “tea tang”. She had a compassionate heart for people and animals. It was always a surprise to walk in and find a new animal whether it be deer of many different breeds, raccoons, llamas, emus, rabbits, or goats… it was her grandchildren’s own personal zoo. And what a zoo it was! No wonder she loved to wear leopard print so much! Sandy also had a beautiful voice and sang at several churches and events with her sister or niece and nephew.

Survivors include her daughter and son-law, Robin and Druey Stanley, Sr. of Lufkin; son, Jeff Squyres of Lufkin; siblings, Tanua Dias and husband Elvin of Lufkin; David McNeese and wife Pam of Pollok; Terri McNeese and partner Ruth of Houston; granddaughters, Courtney Cartwright of Lufkin; Kaley Bardwell and husband Bo of Lufkin; Kelsey Butler and husband Lucas of Athens; Breanna Mason and husband Dillon of Diboll; Madi Stanley of Lufkin; Druey Stanley, Jr. of Lufkin; and grand-dog, Josi; great-grandchildren, Ty Stanley, Bella Bardwell, Camon Stanley, Knox Skinner, Levens Butler, Rye Bardwell and Kyle Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Loreace McNeese; sister-in-law, Teresa McNeese; husbands Robert Squyres and William May; and best friend, Jenny Ruth.

Pallbearers will be Landon McNeese, Seth McNeese, Michael Dias, Vance Maddox, Shane Squyres, Lucas Butler, Bo Bardwell, Dillon Mason and Cary Parker.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Mason, Knox Skinner, Levens Butler, Rye Bardwell, and Camon Stanley.
