Funeral services for Sam Allen Rhodes, 75, of Huntington will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Ozias Missionary Baptist Church with Brother Trey Thompson and Brother Cary Modisett officiating. Interment will follow in the Tom Havard Cemetery.
Mr. Rhodes was born July 1, 1943 in Madisonville, Texas to the late Callie Elizabeth (Martin) and Vivian Dusty Allen Rhodes, and died Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Rhodes had resided in Huntington for 18 years, previously residing in Angleton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired from Dow Chemical after 25 years of service as a Pipefitter. Mr. Rhodes was a great storyteller and he enjoyed fishing. He assisted and supported his wife’s hunting. He was known for his ability to train hunting dogs and he enjoyed hog hunting. Mr. Rhodes was a member of Ozias Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sprigs Rhodes of Huntington; daughters, Tamara Rhodes of Angleton, and Sammie Kay Casbeer and husband Dana of Angleton; son, Waylan Tarkington and wife Brittany of Huntington; grandchildren, Brehan Castro and husband Ramon of Angleton, Jason Casbeer and wife Kassie of Sanger, Braylee Busby of Angleton, Parker Tarkington of Huntington, and Avery Tarkington-Grimes of Huntington; great-grandchildren, Kynnedy, Callie, and Addison; brothers, Nick Rhodes and wife Karen of Waco and Rocky Rhodes of Angleton; brother and sister in Christ, Ken and Bonnie Windsor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brady Allen Rhodes, and brother, Dusty Rhodes.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Ozias Missionary Baptist Church.
