Ruth Merle "Nanny" Henson

Funeral services for Ruth Merle “Nanny” Henson, 88, of Lufkin will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother M.H. Shubert, Pastor Stephen Sanders, and Pastor Ronnie Frankens officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Henson was born January 15, 1930 in Trinity, Texas to the late Lillie (Hartnett) and John Malty Durdin, and died Monday, April 16, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Henson resided in Angelina County most of her life. She worked for Harvey Williford Plumbing, the Okay Food Store across from the paper mill, and in her 80s finished her working days as a receptionist for Deaton Law Firm. Mrs. Henson was known for her cooking, especially her pies. She had a lifetime membership with the Slack Elementary PTA. Mrs. Henson’s home and heart was always open to those in need. She loved reading and gospel music. Mrs. Henson attended New Life United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Julia Henson of Bald Hill, Michael and Paula Henson of Huntington, John Mark and Crystal Henson of Lufkin, Steven and Beth Henson of Pollok; daughters and sons-in-law, Andra Barnes, Deena and Herbert Powers, all of Lufkin, Jane (Bentley) and William Crim of Etoile; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David “Doc” Henson; infant daughter, Jane Ellen Henson; daughter, Linda Henson Uriarte; and sons-in-law, David Bentley and Alex Barnes.

Pallbearers will be Clint Powers, Brandon Bentley, Lane Henson, Christopher Henson, David Henson, Bradley Henson, Bret Barnes, Mark Barnes, Aidan Henson, and Ethan Henson.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
