Ruth (Henry) Cunigan

July 11, 1929 — December 9, 2025

Huntington, TX

Ruth (Henry) Cunigan, 96, of Huntington died Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at her residence. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home.

Born on July 11, 1929, in Sayre, Oklahoma, Ruth (Henry) Cunigan was the daughter of Charles Homer Henry and Linnie May Crutchfield. Her early years were shaped by the hardships of the Dust Bowl Migration. This era led her family to California when she was just nine years old. They lived in migrant camps before settling in Healdsburg. There, Ruth attended school and often helped her family in the fields and packing houses. She contributed to the agricultural community.

Ruth’s adventurous spirit continued into adulthood. In California, she met Kenneth Cunigan. Their shared journey took them all the way to Alaska where they married and began a life filled with travel. No matter where she lived - across states and even countries - Ruth created a welcoming home where she forged lasting friendships. Her faith was a guiding force. She served as secretary in many churches she attended, and she cherished her Methodist heritage as she followed in the footsteps of ancestors who were devoted preachers and bishops.

A gifted and passionate crafter, Ruth found joy in painting, calligraphy, knitting, sewing, and especially in hand-quilting. Her creativity was a constant throughout her life. Her handmade works became treasured keepsakes for family and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband. Ken; and her siblings.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Dale Cunigan of La Pine, Oregon; her son, Bruce, and wife, Sharon Cunigan of Napa, California; and her daughter, Denise Cunigan and husband, Jim Miller of Huntington, Texas. Ruth leaves behind many grandchildren and special nieces, Anita White and Carol Peterson. Her legacy lives on in the stories she shared, the crafts she created, and the love she gave to all who knew her.
