Royce W. Whiteley

Funeral services for Royce W. Whiteley, 84, of Lufkin will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Elton Musick officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Whiteley was born September 12, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Callie (Eubank) and Andrew E. Whiteley, and died Thursday, August 15, 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mr. Whiteley had a love for working with kids and for this reason he chose to go into Education. He received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University, his master’s degree from the University of North Texas, and his doctorate degree from California Coastal University. He coached and taught at numerous schools in the East Texas area, retiring from Zavalla after 27 years of service. His favorite pastime was sports and he was a big Houston Rockets fan. Mr. Whiteley was always doing something; he was not one to just sit around. He was very active in the Gideon ministry and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lora Whiteley of Lufkin; sons, Chris Whiteley and wife Teresa of Hudson, Kevin Whiteley of Lufkin, Robin Whiteley and wife Ana of Lufkin, Chad Whiteley and wife Maria of Kingwood; daughter, Lorrie McMillan and husband Tom of Aledo; stepson, Ronnie Silvia of Arlington; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Sanders of Alvarado; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; and sister, Norma Jean Cure.

Pallbearers will be his family.

The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning prior to the service at the funeral home.
